Immediately after it has been removed from the mouth, the impression tray is immersed in a disinfection bath for up to 2 minutes. It is then drained carefully to keep it at the same moisture level as when it was removed from the patient's mouth. The impression is then immediately put into a sealed plastic bag to go to the laboratory. The water vapour in the bag will inhibit dehydration. This storage method ensures dimensional stability of the material for up to 24 hours, and even up to 48 hours if it is stored in a double bag. The impression should not be soaked in water or wrapped in a moist paper towel as it would be spoiled and made completely unusable if it imbibed water. |
